When your external world (other people, money, drugs, shopping etc.) provides more safety than you do, you become addicted.
Once you’re addicted, you can fall into the trap of creating an identity based on your external world.
When this happens, life can become really tough.
No matter how much the addiction holds you back, letting go of it will feel like letting go of yourself, or at least a part of you.
So next time you judge someone for holding onto their addiction, just know, they are holding onto themselves.
And next time you notice you’re holding onto the addiction you run, just take a breath and ask yourself;
- Is there another way I can keep myself safe?
- Is there another way I can support me?
Keep at it.
You’ve got this,
