I’ve realised along this journey that the only thing worth accomplishing is to,
get out of your own way.
I used to think;
- My finances were the problem.
- My lack of career path was the problem.
- Other people were always in the way.
- It was the gambling addiction
- It was the drinking addiction
- It was always someone or something else’s fault.
And as long as I had an excuse, I didn’t really have to take responsibility. Because it wasn’t my fault.
That was the first 25 odd years of my life. Always having an excuse why I wasn’t as happy or successful as I said I wanted to be.
Having excuses leads you to pretty much everything you don’t want.
- Addictions
- Debt
- Anxiety
- Depressed states
- Shitty relationships… the list goes on.
So, after spending thousands of dollars and 2 years looking for the magic answer. Looking for the external escape, I finally looked within and searched for an internal solution.
In 2016 I dropped all the bullshit, stopped making excuses and got out of my own way.
I took responsibility for my life and faced those excuses. I decided to do something about them.
I looked at the two biggest reasons why I couldn’t be everything I wanted to be and faced them head on.
In 2016 I decided to face my two biggest fears.
- Public Speaking
- Experiencing life without alcohol or gambling
I set up a public talk to 200 ppl and committed to a 5-month sobriety and gambling detox period.
Xmas day 2016 was the day I woke up and smiled. I took a deep breath and realised I had nothing else to prove.
I was at peace.
I was happier than I had ever been.
All of a sudden, death didn’t seem so scary. I’d played my full hand and won the biggest gamble of them all. Going all in on myself.
My anxiety dramatically reduced to almost nothing. My business began to flourish. My relationship grew faster than I ever imagined and 70% of my dreams became reality in the next 12 months.
So instead of complaining about what is in your way, maybe realise that what’s in your way is the way.
Face your biggest excuses head on and get out of your own way.
You’ll quickly realise no one or nothing is in your way. Just you
Here’s to many more years of getting out of our own way and surprising ourselves with what’s possible.
Back yourself
Find the right support
Go all in & play your full hand
You’ve got this,
Tom
