There comes a time, in everyone’s lives when they accept something, they’ve been denying.
Sometimes something, they have been denying for months or years.
Within that second of acceptance, they release weeks, months, or even years of denying, pain, and often suffering.
Suffering can last a decade.
Freedom is felt within seconds.
The doorway to that freedom is labelled ‘acceptance’.
Accept what you have been denying or avoiding.
It could be as simple as avoiding an action or task like washing the dishes or as scary as reaching out for alcohol reduction support.
The depth of your fear is a reflection of your depth of denial.
The higher the fear, the higher the denial.
Don’t focus on overcoming any fear. Just focus on accepting what you’ve been denying.
Stop avoiding. Stop running from yourself.
Suffering is the process of avoiding something you can’t get away from.
Suffering is not accepting your world as it is.
Suffering is living in denial of what you know to be true.
Which is why ignorant people don’t suffer. “Ignorance is bliss”
To suffer, you must experience two separate things.
1) There is a truth to your experience
&
2) You are denying that truth
The very fact you are suffering, suggests you are denying it.
So, if you are suffering in any way, feel free to ask yourself – “What am I denying right now?”
The truth hurts but the truth triggers change.
We live in a space of knowing what we can do to help ourselves, and then creatively deny that awareness in many different ways.
And there’s nothing wrong with this. It’s kind of how we operate.
But remember,
“There comes a time, in everyone’s lives, when they accept something, they’ve been denying. Sometimes something, they have been denying for months or years.
Within that second of acceptance, they release weeks, years or even months of denying, pain and often even suffering.”
Here’s to a big year of accepting what we’ve been denying, asking for help, and letting go.
Big shout out to anyone who steps up this year to change their relationship with alcohol by acknowledging they’ve wanted to for years but have been denying it until now.
